- Carrels and shelves are available to PhD students and M.A./Th.M. students with approved dissertation or thesis topics.
- Carrels and shelves are assigned by the library. The library cannot accommodate requests for specific carrels or shelves.
- Carrels and shelves are loaned "as is" on a first-come first-served basis.
- The library is not responsible for any lost or missing items, including personal desk chairs.
- Library books on carrels and shelves must be checked out.
- All reference books and journals must be returned to a reshelving cart daily.
- Talking on cell phones or participating in web meetings is not permitted in the carrels area.
- Only covered drinks are permitted in carrels while you are using them. Food is allowed only in the cafe area near the front of the library; food may not stored in carrels or on shelves. (Exceptions may be made for K-cups and tea bags.) This is to keep mice and/or insects from infesting library spaces.
- Coffee pots and hot pots may not be used or stored in the library.
- All belongings must be stored on shelves or carrels in a way that does not obstruct walkways at all. Nothing can stick out beyond the edge of the shelf or carrel. Likewise, belongings must not be kept on the floor. This is so that all our patrons are freely able to access library resources, so that our Library Services staff is able to maneuver book carts through the area, and so that custodial staff is able to clean the floor.
- Students may not make modifications to the carrel space to create additional privacy by affixing items to the carrels.
- Carrels are for personal use only and are not to be “loaned” to other patrons for use.
Violations of these policies may result in the loss of carrel or shelf privileges. These policies will be reviewed periodically for needed revisions.
