Using the Online Catalog

How to Request an Item in the Catalog

When you find a title in our online catalog, you may wish to ask the library to pull the item and hold it for you at the Library Services Desk.

If the item is not available (that is, it's checked out, on Reserve, or missing from the library), you will not have the option to request Rolfing Library's copy of the item.

Step One, Sign In

You will sign in using your TIU credentials--the same email and password you use for myTIU. Your sign in options will vary depending on where you are in your searching process.

If you haven't started searching yet, you can sign into your library account by pulling down the menu at the top and selecting "TIU & I-Share."

Or if you are already looking at a catalog record, you will see a yellow banner in the "Get It" section of the record.

Step Two, Access the Request Form

When you are looking at a catalog record for an item you would like the library to hold for you, you will see a link to Request from TIU.

Step Three, Modify the Request From (optional)

At this point, you can modify the request form if needed. Some of your options are:

  • Selecting a different pickup location--the form defaults to TIU, but if you happen to live close to another I-Share library, you can have your item delivered there instead.
  • Indicating a not-needed-after date
  • Adding a message for our Library Services staff

Requesting Items FAQs

  • How long will it take before my request is ready for me at the Library Services Desk?

It's usually ready within 12-24 hours. Requests are processed by staff members, so if we are extra busy or if the list of requests is especially long, it could be delayed.

  • Can someone else pick up my requests for me?

No. The library's commitment to safeguarding privacy and patron accounts does not permit others to pick up your requests for you. The exception would be faculty proxies

  • I am a distance student living outside of Illinois. I can't come to Rolfing or to an I-Share library. What do I do?

You can ask that we mail the book to you. Please put your address on the comments line of the request form and ask us to mail it to you.
