Searching the Online Catalog

Button to access online catalog

The online catalog is your pathway to finding physical books, eBooks, journals, videos, conference proceedings, and more! You can conduct a simple search, or you may prefer to use the advanced search for more options.

  • Wildcards--You can replace multiple characters with an asterisk (*) to search similar words with similar beginnings:
    • child* would search for results containing the words "child," "childhood," or "children."
  • You can combine search terms by using the advanced search option. For example, you might try searching for pollution AND marine or pollution AND agriculture
  • The catalog will list many different resource types in the results: physical books, eBooks, journals, videos, and more.
  • Use the filters to refine your search.
  • The call number is like an address. It tells you where the book lives in the library. We use Library of Congress numbers, which use both letters and numbers. Here is a map of the library indicating the locations of call number ranges.
  • You can borrow books at the Library Services Desk.
  • To find eBooks and other online resources, select "available online" under the Availability filter.
  • You can borrow electronic items on your computer or a mobile device even when the library is closed. Learn more about eBooks at this link.

Can't find what you need in Rolfing's library? TIU participates in resource sharing with over eighty libraries around the state of Illinois. You can access these resources using the online catalog by expanding your search to I-Share libraries. When you find an item that interests you, request the item via the catalog. Then the item will be delivered to Rolfing for you. Ask a librarian for guidance if you need help getting started.
